Collinstown Park Community College

During Skills Fest 2017, Collinstown Park Community College are linking with local schools and centres to offer students an opportunity to visit the college and get a taste of being a student on courses in our Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Departments. These taster sessions provide students with:

  • the chance to speak to our current students
  • the chance to chat with teachers and get their questions answered
  • practical experience of the courses and skills that we teach
  • information on how to apply for the course.

Demonstrations/Workshops

Hairdressing Department: Join the Hairdressing students as they work on clients in their hair salon.

Tuesday 23rd November 9.30am – 11.00am and 11.30am – 1.00pm

Beauty Therapy Department Join the Beauty Therapy students in their Pop-up salon. Observe how the therapies are carried out, get to see the type of machinery students work with and even experience a short treatment.

Monday, 20th—Sunday, 26th November

Illustrator Heather McKay will be collaborating with students from Stillorgan College of Further Education to create an environment of creative exploration, reflection and contemplation. We are all moving so fast. Distracted. This space hopes to encourage visitors to slow down and take some time to draw breath in a safe space.

Venue: DLR Pop-Up shop, Park House, George’s Street, Dun Laoghaire (Opposite the Fallon & Byrne entrance to the People’s Park)

Opening times: 10am-5pm daily

Loughlinstown Training Centre

As part of Skills Fest 2017, Loughlinstown Training Centre is hosting 3 sessions on Apprenticeship Services on the 23rd of November

Session 1
10.15am – 11.15am –Apprenticeship – A Real Career Option for you

At this session, you will be informed about how Apprenticeship works and the range of Apprenticeships available, e.g. Carpentry, Electrician, Plumber, Financial Services, Insurance, Accounting Technician and Commis Chef.

Session 2
12 – 1pm – Apprenticeship – Options for Employers to recruit Apprentices

This will be a Brown Bag Lunchtime Seminar showcasing to employers how to recruit and register an Apprentice

Session 3
2pm – 3pm – Apprenticeship – A Real Career Option for you

At this session, you will be informed about how Apprenticeship works and the range of Apprenticeships available, e.g. Carpentry, Electrician, Plumber, Financial Services, Insurance, Accounting Technician and Commis Chef

The event will also showcase our large range of training programmes and Training Centre staff will be on hand to offer advice/support to help you choose the right course for you.

Grange Community College

Grange Community College will host the following events as part of Skills Fest 2017.

FE Experience
Tuesday 21st November 2017

An opportunity for senior students from our local second level schools and their Guidance Counsellors to visits our FE facilities. Students will have an introduction to the courses in Grange CC FE and attend some sample classes in Beauty Therapy, Early Childhood Care, Airport Business and Operations and more. This experience allows the students to meet our current students, find out more about our courses and get a feel if this is the right college and course for them.

Careers Talk – Employer engagement
Tuesday 21st November 2017 – Wednesday 22nd November

A serious of lectures is being presented for our currently enrolled FE students. There is a wide variety of speakers on course relevant topics that all FE students can access. Lectures will consist of presentations and questions and answer sessions from several professionals highly experienced in their field. Students will be provided with a detailed timetable of events. Speakers include:

As part of the Skills Fest, we are open on Thursday 23 November to the public for a guided tour of the Training Centre.  You will see at first-hand our courses/apprenticeships, state of the art equipment and excellent facilities.  Staff will be available to assist you.

Further Education – Progression and Employment Opportunities
Thursday 23rd November – 1.30pm – 3pm

This session will look at options open to QQI students who wish to progress to degree programmes next year in the Universities and Institutes of Technologies. It will also focus on pathways to employment.

  • We will focus on how the CAO system works for QQI award holders
  • We will discuss the application process for Mature Students (i.e. students who will be over 23 years of age on 1st January next year) who wish to progress to degree programmes.
  • Employment opportunities through qualifications and certification.
